What families say

★★★★★

I am incredibly grateful to have found Sunshine Childcare Center for my 4-year-old. As a parent, it was challenging to find a school with trustworthy teachers who genuinely care about the children's well-being and development. Sunshine has exceeded my expectations in every way. The staff is caring, attentive, and dedicated to creating a nurturing environment. I also appreciate that they prioritize healthy snacks, which is important to me as I want my child to develop good eating habits.

The center provides ample learning opportunities tailored to preschoolers, encouraging curiosity and growth through fun and educational activities. Watching my child's confidence and skills blossom has been such a joy. I highly recommend Sunshine Childcare Center to any parent looking for a safe, loving, and enriching place for their little one.

About us

I'm Marilyn, the owner and director of Shalom Child Care Center, doing business as Sunshine Child Care Center. I have spent over 30 years in early childhood education and care. I began in home daycare, and through experience and passion I was inspired to open this center for our community.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, and I take pride in creating a safe, clean, and loving space where children feel comfortable and happy. My goal is a place where every child is encouraged to explore, learn, and grow confidently, and where kindness, respect, and safety come first for children and staff alike.

Questions parents ask

The things families ask us most. If your question isn't here, call us at (323) 272-4239 or ask on your tour.

What ages do you care for?

We care for children ages 1 to 6, from toddlers through preschool and pre-K.

Is Sunshine a play-based program?

Yes. Children here learn by doing: hands-on activities, art, stories, songs, and plenty of time to explore and play together. Play is how young children build language, problem solving, and the confidence to try new things, so our days are built around it, alongside the early skills that get them ready for kindergarten.

What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Saturday care is available by request. Early drop-off and late pick-up are built into our regular hours, so there is no extra fee for coming at 6 AM or leaving at 7 PM.

Do you offer part-time care?

Yes. We offer full-time and part-time schedules, year-round. Tell us the days you need on your application and we will let you know what is available.

Are meals included?

Yes, and there is no extra charge. We serve breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, an afternoon snack, and dinner, so there is no need to pack food. Families are also welcome to send food from home if they prefer.

What should my child bring?

Diapers, a change of clothes, and bedding for rest time. We provide the meals and everything else your child needs during the day.

Do you help with potty training?

Yes. We begin potty training once your child shows signs of readiness, and we work closely with you so that what happens here matches what you are doing at home. Consistency between the center and home is what makes it stick.

Do you accept child care subsidies or vouchers?

Yes, we accept subsidized payment. Let us know on your application and we will walk you through what your program needs from us.

Are you licensed?

Yes. We are a licensed California child care center, license number 197495610, licensed as Shalom Child Care Center and doing business as Sunshine Child Care Center. You are welcome to look up our license and inspection history with California Community Care Licensing.

What languages do you speak?

We are an English-speaking center, and children also learn Spanish through daily immersion activities led by our staff.

Can I visit before I enroll?

Please do. Tours run about 30 minutes on weekdays, and your child is welcome to come along. You can schedule a tour online and add it straight to your calendar.

How do I enroll?

Start with our online application. It takes about five minutes and needs no documents or payment. We will call or email you within two business days to confirm availability for your child's age and schedule, then set up a tour and complete the enrollment paperwork.
